Cultural appropriation fears discourage interaction

  • A recent survey highlights several stark generational differences in how people perceive "cultural appropriation," showing that young people are far more likely to avoid "cultural things" for fear of being offensive.
  • Younger respondents were also much more likely to say that dreadlocks or cornrows should be worn exclusively by African Americans, as well as that food can only be "authentic" if it is prepared by a member of the culture.
